(And to make sure that your employees aren’t just promoting their own social media profiles.)

Why should social media links be in your email signature?

This simply gives your clients and potential clients another avenue to find out more about you and a great place to continue the relationship outside of emails and phone calls.

How to add social media icons and links to your email signature

  1. Social Media Icons
Social media icons are effective because these are the symbols that we associate with the different social media and we are wired to click first on those little birds and letters. Here are a handful of Free Social Media Icons for Use in Email Signatures.
  2. Text links
This is not quite as visually appealing to the reader but you can trust that it will always appear the same.
When using text links, make them stand out by making them bold or perhaps a different color and always leaving the link underlined, which your email recipients will immediately recognize as a link.

Want to make one social media shine over others?

Consider scheduling banner blocks for your social media. This is a great way to promote a specific social media page.

For example, promote your LinkedIn page one week and your Twitter page the next. You can also use this to promote a specific social media campaign, post, or hashtag.

These images can be a lot bigger than the typical social media icon, but be careful not to make it too big for mobile devices (320px is the recommended max width).

What NOT to do

Don’t overload your signature with 10 different social media outlets that you use, focus on the top 3 that will interest the people who you email.

The key to increasing your following via your email signature is to not overdo it.

Placing large icons is also something to avoid, Not only will it change the way that your emails appear on mobile devices but it will also make you look unprofessional.
